We’re proud to present Bamboo 10.2.

Take some time and read through the release notes to learn what we've prepared for you this time. Swing by the Bamboo 10.2 upgrade notes to check for any breaking changes if you plan to upgrade and don’t forget to check out the full list of resolved issues.

Bamboo 10.2 is a long-term support LTS release

This means we’ll continue to backport critical security and product bug fixes to 10.2 release throughout its standard 2-year support window. In addition, when architecturally possible, we’ll also backport all other security bug fixes.

This allows you to get the maximum value from our continuous product development without strictly following the frequent release cadence.

Long Term Support releases are designed specifically for larger, more complex instances – ones that require significant planning and effort to upgrade. We understand that upgrades for such instances can be few and far between, and so every one of them needs to count. So, if you can manage only one feature release upgrade every year, make sure it is to the latest LTS release.

Check out the Atlassian Data Center Bug Fix Policy and Security Bug Fix policies for more information.

What's new since the last LTS release?

New LTS releases many not introduce exclusive new features, but they still pack a slew of improvements over previous releases. Every LTS release contains all features introduced since the last  one and provides fixes for known issues.

Top new features

Every release leading up to Bamboo 10.2 introduced its own set of exciting new features. See the following table for a brief overview of what we’ve added to Bamboo since release 9.6:

Introducing Bamboo guardrails

In an effort to give you more information about getting the best performance out of your Bamboo instance, we’ve published our Bamboo guardrails. Guardrails are designed to help you identify potential risks and aid you in making decisions about the next steps in your instance optimization journey. We’ll guide you through assessing the current state of your instance, and we’ll show you how to reduce the risk of potential problems. Learn more about Bamboo guardrails.

Permissions for Deployment projects

We’ve revamped permissions for deployment projects. As of the Bamboo 10.2 release, we’ve added two new permissions: create release and clone project. These permissions are no longer implicitly granted by other permissions. We’ve also added a new administration permission. With new permissions, administrative actions like managing permissions, deleting and renaming releases, and handling audit logs are no longer solely governed by the edit permission as in versions up to 10.1. Learn more about configuring deployment projects.

The artifact downloader task allows for selection of arbitrary branches

We have improved the Artifact downloader task to offer greater flexibility in configuring the strategy for selecting plan branches. You now have the option to choose from the following settings: Match by plan branch name, Use default plan branch if not matched, or Select custom plan branch. Learn more about sharing artifacts.

Enhancements to the search experience

Version Control Systems (VCS) branches may include special characters such as /, :, [, and ]. When Bamboo detects and creates these branches, it sanitizes the plan branch names by converting all special characters into hyphens -. Consequently, this process makes it impossible to search for plan branches using their original VCS branch names. Users must manually replace special characters with - to perform searches.

This adjustment sanitizes the search term according to the same rules applied when creating plan branches, thereby enhancing the overall search experience.

Critical bug fixes

Apart from new features, every release includes a number of bug fixes. The following table lists the most critical issues we’ve resolved since Bamboo 9.6.

The table only lists resolutions to the bugs with the highest severity status. We recommend that you follow the links in the last column to see the full list of issues resolved in each release.
