Configuring Indexing Language

Changing the indexing language to be used in your Confluence site may improve the accuracy of Confluence search results, if the majority of the content in your site is in a language other than English.

Confluence supports content indexing in:

  • Arabic
  • Brazilian
  • Chinese
  • CJK
  • Custom Japanese
  • Czech
  • Danish
  • Dutch
  • English (default)
  • Finish
  • French
  • German
  • Greek
  • Hungarian
  • Italian
  • Norwegian
  • Persian
  • Polish

  • Romanian
  • Russian
  • Spanish
  • Swedish

To configure the indexing language:

  1. Go to Administration menu , then General Configuration. then choose Edit.

  2. Select the Indexing Language from the dropdown list in the Formatting and International Settings section.

  3. Choose Save.

OpenSearch additional configuration

Some indexing languages require plugins to be installed on the OpenSearch instance to work:

Language

Plugin

Polish

analysis-stempel

Custom Japanese

analysis-kuromoji

To install plugins on a self managed OpenSearch instance, follow this guide Installing plugins. On AWS OpenSearch, these plugins are installed by default.

If you switch the indexing language while using OpenSearch, you will need to perform a full reindex.
