Summary

When you open a board in Jira, there's a warning message that says "Issue types in this board and project don't match":

This warning will appear only when your Jira board is using the enhanced board and backlog. You can find more information in this blog post about it.

Diagnosis

Check if the issue type mentioned in the warning message is configured in the project's issue type scheme. If it's not, check if there are issues in the project that use this issue type. If you see any, consider the solutions below to fix the issue. You can use a simple JQL to find issues in a project using a specific issue type:

project = ABC AND issuetype = "XYZ Issue Type"

Cause

If there are issues under your project that use issue types not configured in the project's issue type scheme, a warning will pop up when you open a board with the Enhanced board experience enabled.

Solution

In order to resolve this issue, there are two possible solutions:

  1. Edit the issue type scheme for your project and add the missing issue type mentioned in the error message,
  2. Bulk edit the issues that use the issue type not present in your project's issue type scheme and modify them to use an issue type that is already configured in the scheme.
