Error when transitioning an issue to a known status with Jira Automation

Summary

Automation rule error:   "Destination status could not be resolved. If using a smart-value ensure this resolves to a numeric status ID or untranslated name for issues (with current status)"

Environment

Jira Cloud Automation

Cause

There can be two possibilities for this error:

1.  If the user does not have the permissions to transition the issue. 

Or

2. This error will occur when a rule is trying to transition a ticket to a status, but there is no transition from the current status to the new status in the workflow of that ticket.

Solution

1. For any permission-related issue, please verify the workflow transition conditions or the status properties and make the necessary changes.

2. If there are no blockers in the status properties or the workflow transition conditions, then verify the workflow of the issue 

  • Create a direct transition from the current status to the new status in the workflow of that ticket.
    Or,
  • For the particular status for which the transition error is observed in the audit log of the automation rule, in the workflow of this ticket for that status checkmark "Allow all statuses to transition to this one."
