Summary

In a Scrum Board under Epic Panel, for some EPICs, the information displayed about the count of child issues is incorrect. When expanding an Epic within the Epic panel, the following details are seen:

  • issues
  • Completed
  • Unestimated
  • Estimate

Some numbers do not correspond to what we can see in the Epic.

Environment

Jira Cloud

Cause

This happens because an Epic has child issues that are not included in the board filter. The issue counts in a board will only include issues that appear on that board.

In the attached screenshot example, an Epic with key AUT-118 has 3 child issues. However, under Epic Panel in Backlog, there is just showing 2 child issues for AUT-118

From the board settings, it can be confirmed if the board filter has excluded an issue type from the query:

Solution

Check the board filter and make sure that the filter is not excluding any child issues:

Access a Scrum board > ... > Board Settings > General > Filter Query
